Good Websites: - http://www.Disney.com
I feel this website is good not just for kids but big kids too, although it is aimed mainly at an audience comprising preschool to early teens.
I think it is a good site because it is constantly being updated and I like the way the links are structured, very likely to be Flash oriented. Good use of colours and fonts and the quality of video trailers for the web are excellent. The website also has an array of animated games for the user to play online and I like the way one of the graphics simply drops off the screen.
I know the website well as I have evaluated it in the past for college and it also is a personal favourite of mine.
Bad Website: - http://www.shetland-news.co.uk/
This website was discovered by recalling the words of a University lecturer who talked recently about the Shetland Times and the Shetland News having a legal confrontation in relation to copyright.
The purpose of the site is to share the news locally with people who live in the Northern Isles and in 55 other countries worldwide. The site also has an opinion and debate page which focuses on Politics and the Environment, Ads, Jobs and Travel.
I found the layout of the pages did not fit the purpose intended for it as the site was very poor and the homepage space could have been used differently e.g. there are small photographs at the top of the page which could have been made bigger if they did not have adverts along the bottom of the page and also it should have a professional look and feel and be business-like.
In comparison to the BBC site that is crisp and clear and gives the user a wide choice of topics, but the Shetland News failed to meet a student's aspirations as a good website. The site is updated daily and has links to other local businesses and the links all worked except for one.
